Short and sweet, but not the Sabrina Carpenter album (AMORTAGE Album Review)
After March 7th, every BLACKPINK member will have released a full solo album. I've decided I want to review each member's album, and I decided to start with JISOO's "album" even though it's really an EP. I didn't really know what to expect going into this, as I didn't listen to any songs by her before. Let's get into this review, starting with...
#1: earthquake (5/5)
I believe this is the single from this EP, even though Hits 1 picked up on Your Love. I can see why this would be the focus track, as it seems very radio friendly. There’s not a ton of Korean in this one, which I definitely prefer because I actually understand what's being said. The production is really nice here, and reminds me of a song from 2020 for some odd reason. JISOO sounds really good here, and I would like to see this do well on radio.
#2: Your Love (5/5)
Now onto the non-single that Hits 1 is treating like a single, and I can definitely understand why they picked up on this one. First of all, it's fully in English, which is definitely a welcome surprise. Second of all, this one might be even more upbeat than earthquake. The production is really great, and this time reminds me of a song from 2018-2019. JISOO once again sounds really good. We're halfway through this EP, and so far it's perfect.
#3: TEARS (4/5)
So this one is quite evidently mostly in Korean, which is a stark contrast to the last two songs. I still enjoy the production on this one, and JISOO still sounds great on this one. I also really enjoy the bridge in this song, even though I can't understand a word she's saying. The ah-ah-ah part can get a bit annoying at times, but besides from that, this song is pretty good.
#4: Hugs & Kisses (4/5)
This song reminds me of 2018-2019's music again, which is kind of weird for a K-Pop EP. I really like the verses here, but the choruses before the bridge are kind of underwhelming for me. I think the production is building up to something big, then I'm just disappointed. The bridge is really great though, and the chorus after that is what I wanted every chorus to be. JISOO sounds great here, and the production is really great too. I just wish this song was a bit bigger, but besides that, it's a really great song.
Overall Score: 18/20 (90%) - Great
Favorite Songs: earthquake, Your Love
Least Favorite Song: TEARS
So I definitely wasn't disappointed! I really enjoy the first two tracks, while the last two have a few flaws but are still enjoyable. I can't wait to continue this series, probably continuing with rosie. See you in the next post!
