And as promised... (rosie Album Review)
Hey guys, and welcome back to my second post in my BLACKPINK review series. Today I am following up on what I said when I reviewed JISOO's album, and reviewing rosie, ROSÉ's debut studio album. I had high hopes going into this one, so let's see if my expectation were met.
I find it funny that the first track on this album has one in its title. This is a really nice piano ballad. The production is great and reminds me of another song that I can't remember the name of. ROSÉ sounds really good here, and her voice is very soothing. I wish this had some impact when it released, as it definitely deserves attention.
#2: 3am (4/5)
A missed opportunity for this to be a track 3, but it's whatever. I also really enjoy this one. It reminds me of a song from the pandemic with the production. The production is great, and ROSÉ's voice is great. My favorite part in this one has to be the "I'm not like anyone else" right before the second chorus. I don't know why, but it's just so great. However, the "eh-eh" part repeating so many times makes this song really repetitive, and makes it feel super slow at times.
#3: two years (5/5)
Oh come on, we could've had a 1, 2, 3 in the tracklist, but this just had to be track 3. Come on, just switch the two songs! ROSÉ sounds great again here, and I love how the production picks up throughout the song. I just wish this one was a bit longer, but it's still a great song.
#4: toxic till the end (5/5)
Finally, a song without a number in its title! People have compared this song to a Taylor song, and I definitely see it. I love ROSÉ's voice here, and the production is amazing. My favorite parts would have to be the bridge, and the "Ladies and gentlemen, I now present to you, the ex" part after the first chorus. I really hope this continues to smash on radio.
#5: drinks or coffee (5/5)
Out of all the songs so far, this feels the most like a K-Pop song yet. I like the more "western" feeling she went for on this album, but her K-Pop songs are really good too. The production is really catchy and fun here, while ROSÉ's voice is also great. It would be so much better though if it was a bit longer, as right now it ends a bit abruptly.
#6: APT. (feat. Bruno Mars) (6/5)
Here's the song that made me want to review this album. Who thought Bruno Mars on a ROSÉ song would be THIS amazing? These two have surprisingly great chemistry, and their voices mix really well. They both sound amazing, and the production is just so fun. This is the type of song that would get stuck in your head for a week straight. ROSÉ's parts are great, Bruno's verse is even better, and the bridge is somehow even better than both of those. When they finally sing harmony together, it's absolutely perfect. I somehow have no critiques for this song, and I truly believe it deserves all the success it's collected over the past months.
#7: gameboy (4/5)
We're halfway done, and we've arrived at a song I won't be surprised if ROSÉ gets sued for. Knowing Nintendo, if she didn't get any licensing for this song, they probably don't approve of this song. The production is really upbeat here, and I definitely enjoy it. It is a bit much, and it's really repetitive as the song goes on. ROSÉ sounds the same as in basically every other song on this album, great. Overall, it's a very middle-of-the-road song that I probably wouldn't come back to on a regular basis.
#8: stay a little longer (5/5)
ROSÉ, there's four songs left, I'm staying a little longer. This one is a ballad, and I think her voice really suits ballads. The production here really reminds me of Lose Control by Teddy Swims, and that's a compliment. I really like the production, and like I said, ROSÉ's voice works really well here. I've seen a lot of complaints about there being too many ballads on this album, but if she can pull off a ballad like this, I really don't mind.
#9: not the same (4/5)
#10: call it the end (5/5)
I don't think this is the end of album ROSÉ, you have two songs left. This is yet another ballad, but it’s not as nearly as great as the others, but I still really enjoy it. ROSÉ still sounds great, and the production is really well made too. It actually evolves this time, and I really like it. This is yet another great ballad on a great album.
#11: too bad for us (5/5)
This one starts slow, but then builds up to a rock inspired production, which works really well. ROSÉ sounds really good, and the production is really amazing. I particularly love the guitar in the bridge. Wow, this album is really amazing!
#12: dance all night (5/5)
We’ve finally reached the end of this album, and it ends on another high note. ROSÉ sounds really good here, and production feels more like an R&B song. I definitely enjoy the change, and I really enjoy the whole song. What a great way to end this album.
Overall Score: 58/60 (97%) - Great
Favorite Songs: APT. (feat. Bruno Mars), toxic till the end
Least Favorite Songs: 3am, not the same
I expected this album to score high, but not this high! This is now somehow the highest ranking album I’ve reviewed, and maybe I was a bit too harsh on TTPD after all. I definitely feel it this album deserves that high of a ranking, as it was really amazing. That’s all for me today, thanks for reading!
Lol you always review the albums I plan on reviewing (not complaining, still gonna post a Rose review this month) Also I think the 1, 3, 2 thing was probably intentional since its just so obvious, but I have no idea what it could mean so it also really bugs me
