Is the forgotten EP forgotten for a reason? (The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection Album Review)
I am not a big fan of early Taylor Swift. Debut is my least favorite album, and some songs of hers are just unlistenable because of her voice. Today, I decided to go against those opinions and review her holiday EP, The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection. Will I like this or will I be wishing I just stuck to her other albums? You'll find out soon... but first you have to read the post.
#1: Last Christmas (5/5)
We start this review with a cover, and it's actually pretty good! It's nothing close to a version like Wham's, but it would be really hard to beat a song like that. The guitar is nice, and Taylor sounds really good here. A really solid start.
#2: Christmases When You Were Mine (3/5)
This is the first of two original songs of this review, and it's not that good. This is just way too slow for my liking, and there's almost no production. Taylor sounds good, but that's not enough to redeem this one.
#3: Santa Baby (5/5)
This is another classic song, and I really enjoy it. The country production spices this song up, and it sounds really great. Taylor sounds really great here, and it reminds me of the original Santa Baby.
#4: Silent Night (5/5)
We're back to another cover, and I really enjoy Silent Night. Taylor's voice is great on this song, and the production is great. I know I was just complaining about a song being too slow, but I think this song being slow works in its advantage. Another great song off of this album.
#5: Christmas Must Be Something More (3/5)
We've arrived at the last original song here, and it's not as good as the covers. The production is pretty good here, but Taylor's voice is off. I can't tell what it is, but it just sounds awful. This song also doesn't even feel like a Christmas song, and I wouldn't question you if you said this was off of Debut purely based off of the production.
#6: White Christmas (4/5)
The last song on the album also happens to be the worst cover. Taylor sounds good here, and the production is good, but why did we make White Christmas a country song? This is meant to be a slow ballad, not a song with country production.
Overall Score: 20/25 (80%) - Good
Favorite Songs: Santa Baby, Last Christmas
Least Favorite Songs: Christmases When You Were Mine, Christmas Must Be Something More
So this review went basically how I thought it would. The covers would score high, and the originals would not. I hope this gets rerecorded one day so the originals can really shine (an album with this, Christmas Tree Farm, and a couple new songs would be perfect). I also learned early Taylor's voice is better than I remember it being. I would definitely come back and listen to a couple of these songs.
Wow we released the same album review on the same day, I swear I didn't even notice
