fruitcake just makes me sick! (fruitcake Album Review)
Long before Espresso, Please Please Please, Taste, or even Feather blew up, Sabrina Carpenter released a holiday EP called fruitcake. It never really blew up, but it might have a second chance at life this year with Sabrina being way bigger than last year. I gave it a listen last year, but this time I'm going to review. So with no further hesitation, let's get into it!
#1: A Nonsense Christmas (4/5)
Nonsense was Sabrina's biggest song of last year, so like any normal artist she made a Christmas remix! Unlike some other holiday remixes, this adds more than just jingle bells in the production, in fact it changes most of the lyrics! The production here is nice, and Sabrina sounds nice, but I wish the lyrics were a bit cleaner.
#2: buy me presents (5/5)
Now to original songs, and we're starting off with a pretty good one. I love the production on this one, and Sabrina sounds pretty good as well. I love the trumpet solo, and the clapping bit at the end is genius.
#3: santa doesn't know you like i do (5/5)
This might be the biggest one off this EP, and for good reason. The production on this one is amazing, and I love Sabrina's voice here. I also really enjoy the talking part and the stripped down ending. If there was a song to send to radio, I'd pick this one.
#4: cindy lou who (5/5)
A sad Christmas song wasn't on my bingo card for this album, but I'll take it. I believe Cindy Lou Who is the ex's new girlfriend, and that's such a great concept. The production is really slow here, but I still enjoy it. It reminds me of The Tortured Poets Department for some reason, and that's definitely a good thing. I really like Sabrina's voice here too.
#5: is it new years yet? (5/5)
This one isn't a traditional Christmas song, because it's actually about Sabrina being sick of Christmas. Despite it being abnormal, I really love the idea. Sabrina sounds great, and the production is the production is amazing. The lyrics are so clever, and I hope this one gets some success.
#6: white xmas (4/5)
This is a cover of White Christmas, and Sabrina really does it well. Her voice is perfect for this song, and the production is great too. The only thing out of place here is the random Jingle Bells reference at the end, which kind of ruins the ending for me. It just makes a great song slightly less great.
Final Score: 28/30 (93%) - Great
